What is 1 Giant Mind?
In 2013, one in three Australians will suffer from stress, one in four Australians will have a mental disorder and one in five Australians will be on stress-related medication. Almost half of the nation’s children will suffer from depression, anxiety and or other stress-related illnesses
Stress is a fact of human life, but the pandemic levels of stress, stress-related mental illness and lifestyle diseases that we are seeing today are abnormal by historical standards.
There is a growing body of scientific evidence being released by the world’s leading universities that demonstrates how meditation produces a range of positive psychophysiological outcomes including decreased stress, decreased depression and anxiety, increased immune function, increased brain function, normalised blood pressure and heart rate, chronic pain relief, increased energy levels and creativity, increased happiness, empathy, and faster recovery from stressful events among many other positive results.
So, why doesn’t everyone meditate? Most people don’t have access to this research, they believe that meditation is difficult to learn, is mostly an esoteric spiritual practice and does not directly correlate to increased health and wellbeing.
1 Giant Mind is committed to changing these perceptions and reducing the impact that stress is having on us.
Our mission is to reduce and prevent stress-related lifestyle disease and mental illness by empowering people worldwide with learn-to-meditate programs, resources, and research.
Our vision is a calmer, happier, healthier world where meditation is as commonplace as basic personal hygiene, exercise, and a healthy diet.
It wasn’t too long ago that simple things like brushing our teeth and basic hygiene were not a part of our daily lives. It’s difficult to imagine a time when these were not widely adopted lifestyles. But, it wasn’t until evidence-based reasoning enabled us to understand that the absence of these good habits was causing profound health issues. When a critical mass adopted these simple habits we witnessed a quantum leap in health around the world.
Today we stand at the precipice of such an opportunity to take yet another quantum leap into a realm of mental health and wellbeing that can again profoundly change the quality of our lives.
We call it “stress hygiene” and we see it as the new frontier.
When we are stressed, we fail to meet the great challenges of our time, to remain healthy, present, and adaptable to the relentless pressures of life. By simply taking a few minutes each day to stop, close our eyes and recover from stress and gain a deeper awareness of ourselves, we may change our world in unimaginable ways.
